Hi!

It’s been a little quiet ’round here. I was struck down by the flu of the stomach variety and have spent most of the week sipping tea on my couch and watching Netflix.

Before I became a hot, sick, mess… I did a photo shoot with some local wedding vendors turned friends.

A peek at our shoot for Swoon…a bridal salon from Courtney Wilson Aaron on Vimeo.

The shoot was held at the lovely 41 Taylor. It’s a typical downtown Reno style house that has been completely redone for events and rental. It’s vintage and glam. Think original hardwood floors, fancy radiator covers, gold encased mirrors, chandeliers, a bathroom papered with the pages of vintage books, and a back room FULL of the glitziest, vintage goodies and props.

Michelle from Swoon…a Bridal Salon brought some gorgeous gowns and fun accessories from her shop. Swoon is such a great boutique and the only store that I am aware of in town that stocks gowns of this gorgeousness. She takes such care with all of her dresses. Plus, shopping with Michelle is pressure free and super personal…so unlike large scale salons. I may be a little biased since I did buy my wedding dress from her last year ;)

Edin Carpenter is the woman behind the hair and make-up. She did such a lovely, effortless job creating looks that were both flawless and real (ie, not airbrushed to oblivion). I envy beauty skills like hers.

Holly Fleur did all of the amazing bouquets. The scent was literally wafting around the room all day. Each arrangement was so unique with unexpected details. I couldn’t stop gushing about and smelling them all day long. Dreamy, dreamy.

There were some awesome antiques that were borrowed from The Red Chair, a little shop full of vintage and modern finds. One of my fave local stores for window shopping.

The shoot was largely coordinated by my friend and amazing photographer, Courtney Wilson Aaron. She asked two of her former clients and real brides, Terese and Ashley to be the models for the shoot. Both girls were lovely and so nice. I think it is really awesome that this was an entirely local shoot: local vendors, local real-girl brides.

I know I have mentioned this, but Courtney shot my wedding last June. Then, I made a dessert table for her wedding and helped with some day of coordination. Then she asked me to participate in this shoot and I was like, “Heck yes! I am so all over that!” So, I made a ruffle cake using this tutorial. This technique is AWESOME by the way. Like really, really awesomely easy compared to the results. I want to only make ruffle cakes from now until forever. I just love the look–pretty, a little rustic, but totally edible. I also made some vanilla macarons because I knew they would be a hit  (as, I am sure you’ve noticed, they are all the rage) and because they just look so good.

I cannot wait to see (and share!) Courtney’s images from the day!

here are some shots I snuck throughout the day.

Anyway, the shoot was so fun! I’m such a sucker for pretty wedding things, vintagey things, and general loveliness.

sweet love: sean and cindy married

hello! okay, so i have been dying to share this with everyone! a year of planning and a pretty intense couple of weeks led to this…my wedding and marriage to my mr. sean!

i worked with amazing people and a lovely photographer: Courtney Wilson. when i first met with courtney, i knew she would be shooting our wedding. our style and ideas were very similar. she is getting married in september and as we were trading ideas we realized we shared many details…right down to our future husbands name (sean!), our dress designer (melissa sweet!) and a homespun desserts table.

these are just some of the photos courtney has sent me (and given me permission to share ASAP!). i can’t wait to see the rest!

about the wedding:

sean and i had been engaged 4 1/2 years prior to our wedding day. we took our time, finished school and pinched our pennies to throw a wedding that we hoped would be full of fun, food, family and much dancing. we chose amazing vendors that helped us create an event that was uniquely us.  many of the details were DIY, including all of the decor, the favors, and the desserts. with the much needed help and support of my amazingly talented best friends, i spent the weeks before making the tuile pom-poms, canning jam, sewing flags, paper-crafting banners and food labels, creating a guest tree, and finally…baking desserts. my best friend, maid of honor, and hair stylist extroidinaire, brooke did all of our hair. she is amazingly talented. she also brought me back from the edge more than once ;) my friends bailey and josh made all of the bow-ties. my oldest friend katie ran errands and fetched coffee like a pro. my dear friend amber officiated our wedding with the sweetest words and most tender thoughts. sean created a killer playlist of songs that have a lot of meaning to us–courtney even discovered her new favorite song, “to be young” by ryan adams!–along with plenty of dance jams a la michael jackson, whitney (before the crack made her wack) and some vintage madonna. we asked our wedding party to follow a loose dress code: vests and slacks with homemade bowties for the boys. garden party dresses for the ladies. it was truly an amazing and unforgettable day.

i have so much more to share and its all still a bit overwhelming, but i will surely share more as the photos come in!
