Ham and Jam Baguette

February 17, 2016 by Leave a Comment

This post is a part of Lovely Lady Lunch–where I take some time, once a week, to make myself a real lunch. I might read a book, flip through a magazine, or watch a show. The idea is to enjoy a delicious lunch and just take a minute in the middle of the day to chill. I encourage you to share your lovely lady lunches on media using the tag #lovelyladylunch!

Ham and Jam Baguette

I’m calling this sandwich the ham and jam, mostly because it rhymes, but to be more accurate it’s a prosciutto, camembert, arugula sandwich with grainy mustard and apricot jam. I think ham & jam is a little easier to say, and I’m a goober who likes a cheesy rhyme. Speaking of cheese, it’s kind of like a cheese plate fell into a sandwich, and it’s basically what salty/sweet dreams are made of. The apricot jam is sweet, but it’s balanced by zingy mustard and peppery arugula. The camembert is lush and buttery with some cheesy funk, and the prosciutto provides delicious, porky salt. This sandwich has layers upon layers of flavor but, it’s super simple and comes together in so quickly. Which is exactly what #lovelyladylunch is about.

Side note: Using an entire demi-baguette might make a bit of a hefty sandwich and you might have to take a nap. I ended up wrapping half of the sandwich up and eating it the next day. I just let it sit out for about 20 minutes to take the chill off the bread and cheese.

Ham and Jam Baguette

This easy sandwich gets a punch of sweet and salty flavor from apricot jam and prosciutto, while zingy mustard, peppery arugula, and creamy camembert provide balance.
Author: Cindy
Serves: 1 sandwich

Ingredients
  • 1 demi baguette
  • 1 tablespoon grainy mustard
  • 1 tablespoon apricot jam
  • 3 thin slices camembert cheese
  • 3 thin slices proscuitto
  • 1 small handful arugula leaves
Instructions
  1. Slice the demi baguette in half lengthwise. Spread one half with the mustard and the other half with the jam. Layer on the camembert, prosciutto, and arugula. Cut in half on a bias and enjoy!
Notes
You could sub ham for the prosciutto or brie for the camembert. Any jam you like is great on this, particularly flavors you’d like to see on a cheese plate (fig would be delicious)!

Love this series, Cindy! I have been making all my lunches at the beginning of the week and taking them to work. It’s making things so much easier!

I am keen to see all of your lunches and make them mine!

this Lovely Lady Lunch idea is freaking perfect. I’ve had a few of them (very few) but now I know what to call em. This is exactly the type of post where I will buy every single ingredient listed for this Ham + Jam and try to remake this DELICIOUS LOOKING SAMMY. xo

Yum! Ok, I’m making this for a weekend lunch (my husband would be too jealous if I ate this without him & I guess sharing is caring… Haha). My lunch today was… Leftover pierogi filling, eaten over the sink. Oops.

I LOVE the idea of #loveladylunch! My lunches lately have been tortilla chips with an avocado sauce. It’s bad….

This sandwich is beautiful!! That ham, jam, and cheese combo is phenom!

(P.S. Can’t believe I’ll be in Portland in less than 2 months!!)

I am going to make one of these Sunday and wrap it up so I can grab it and eat it during the week for a quick nap time meal. I know I am defeating the purpose of your leisurely lady lunch. If it turns into one of those rare days where both boys are sleeping you better believe I will sit, eat this, and read my Real Simple mag.

I feel you (but I don’t, because I’m not even juggling 2)! Either way, I hope you enjoy it!!
